It’s hard to avoid hearing or talking about tragedies, and children can become scared and confused when overhearing adults talking. So how can you maintain a sense of normalcy and safety when crime hits close to home? I want to create a safe space for parents to talk to other concerned parents, as parents, with all politics set aside. Join this safe, confidential, open discussion (that won't be recorded) to talk about how you are feeling. Then get some practical tips (which will be recorded) for how to handle these situations and conversations with your children.

Often, children (and young adults) who kill will have common experiences in their background. Many of these experiences are also common to foster children. Does this mean that foster-adoptive children could be at more risk of making such poor decisions? While there are many factors that can contribute to creating a “perfect storm” that explodes into hurting others, parents are often in the key position to tip the scales in one direction or another --- quite literally towards life or death. Attend this workshop to learn what these risk factors are and how to neutralize the risks, while simultaneously helping your foster-adoptive children learn healthy coping strategies, life skills, and become emotionally well-balanced adults.
